Accreditation of Vocational Training Institutions gathers momentum, April 2010

With technical support from the ILO/Japan Youth Employment Project, the District Secretary Rathnapra district organized a seminar on “The Importance of Registration and Accreditation of Vocational Training (VT) Institutions" at the district secretariat. The seminar was conducted by the Tertiary and Vocational Training Commission (TVEC). The objectives of the seminar were to a) make aware public and private sector VT service providers regarding the importance of registering under Tertiary Vocational Training Commission b) raise awareness on the market requirements and TVEC standards of the courses offered by the institutions c) inform VT service providers about the importance of maintaining quality of the training courses conducted in their institutions and d) to share information with VT service providers in the district. The workshop was chaired by the district secretary of the Rathnapra district. Two technical experts from TVEC facilitated the seminar. The seminar was attended by 80 private and public sector vocational training service providers. The additional secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Deputy Chief Secretary of the Sabaragamwa Provincial Council and Secretary of the Provincial Industrial Development Ministry also made presentations.
